Modern landscape designers and architects have found beautiful new ways to fix sloped terrain near or around houses. In fact, these methods are so beautiful that people are incorporating them into their gardens even when they are not entirely necessary. Here are 8 of our favourite retaining wall designs.

#1 Vertical Garden Wall
A brilliant way to restrain sloped and uneven land is to build a vertical garden where the conditions call for a retaining wall. The wall can have cavities in them to place plants and flowerpots, or it can have pretty greenery growing out of it.

#2 Wall Steps
Brilliant and beautiful. Instead of building one flat wall, a stepped wall could be made. Stairs for walking up and down the slope and other steps to beautify further with greenery.

A classic look to give your house a rustic exterior. Stone walls look beautiful and they serve their purpose wonderfully too. This is one of the most common and best ways to build retaining walls.

Clay bricks, concrete bricks, sand lime bricks. So many beautiful textures and colors. Apart from the aesthetic appeal, bricked walls offer strength too. 

#5 Curved Wall
Instead of opting for the regular flat sided wall, the new trend is to make it curved around the edges and give it a circular look.  Any sort of material can be used for these walls, as long as it guarantees strength and durability.

#6 Wooden Retaining Wall
Wooden houses, wooden flooring, and now wooden retaining walls. Wood has a certain appeal to it and it never goes out of style. 

#7 Concrete Wall
Make your houses and your walls stronger than ever. Like wood, concrete can also be seen in a lot of places. It can be built as a simple wall or it can be designed and textured to give it that extra nice look.
