Estimating is important because not everyone has more than one bathroom that they can use while the other one gets renovated. It is a huge inconvenience to have your bathroom unusable when it is being remodelled.

Renovating your bathroom is a big task. The bathroom is one of the only places in your home that makes you feel rejuvenated when you leave it, be it a shower or a simple night time routine before you head off to bed. Before you go ahead with your bathroom renovation, there are a few important things you should know.

A full bathroom installation as a part of a renovation takes between 13 and 25 days. On average, most bathroom renovations take around 3 weeks to complete.

Of course, these estimates are just a guideline. here is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question because it could take more or less time for your bathroom renovation depending on variables such as:

  • Size of the bathroom
  • The complexity of the work
  • Cost and availabilities of tradies
  • Late arrival of materials
  • Unplanned problems

What is the process of a bathroom renovation?

1. Demolition

If your bathroom consists of timber and sheet walls, it will take a maximum of two to three days to demolish. If your bathroom was made with solid bricks, it may take a little more time to demolish it. Keep in mind that at this point, if you are planning to change your bathroom outlay as new structural beams will be added during this stage.

2. Plumbing and Electrical

Plumbers and electricians are called in to re-route and restructure any plumbing lines and wires to fit in with the current bathroom design after renovation has taken place. It may take a day for small bathrooms to do this. If you are altering the outlay of the old bathroom this would require plumbing to be re-routed and wiring to be redirected to fit in with the new design. This process usually takes 3 days to complete.

3. Relining and Waterproofing

In this, the wales and ceilings will be sheathed, set and prepared for the next stage in this process. This takes approximately 3 days, however, due to drying time, it may take longer.

The most critical part of your entire bathroom renovation process is arguably waterproofing. Done correctly, it should guarantee a leak proof space for many years. However, if it isn’t done correctly, it can lead to many problems later on.

4. Tiling

In this, the floors and walls will be tiled. This step usually takes between one to three days.

5. Paint and Finishing

This is the final phase of the renovation where the final finishing touches are installed. The bathroom can now be decorated according to your requirements with the main basins and fixtures mounted, with the tiling and sheeting all finished. Once this is completed, it is now possible to add some small new fixtures such as taps, morris and other trims.

It is important for you to be practical during your bathroom renovation. Even though the average is 3 weeks, the time could be spread over a few months. If each job is completed back-to-back, the renovation can take as little as 3-4 weeks, but can take up to 7 weeks if there are times when the next trade can’t begin their task immediately, or there are other delays such as sick days or products not arriving on time. These unforeseen circumstances can be frustrating, but are often unavoidable. Selecting experienced bathroom renovation professionals for your job with plenty of experience, positive customer reviews, and high quality photos of past work on Service.com.au will help ensure that your job runs as smoothly as possible.

Planning, quotes and choosing style elements are not included in these estimates for your remodeled bathroom.
