Best colours to paint your room for your baby

You have a cot, a gorgeous stuffed animal and enough nappies to last a lifetime but you STILL haven’t decided on a room colour and your baby is almost here!

Read on to find a helpful guide on choosing the best room colour for your darling baby. Whom will be the centre of your universe and the apple of your eye!

Naturally, you will want only the very best. Should we choose something bright and cheerful? Or maybe cool and calm? But will that be depressing? Just some of the questions you may find yourself wondering.

We understand there is a lot of stress and lack of time that comes with having a baby, so service.com.au thought we would lend a hand with this article on the best room colours for your baby.

Did you know that colours can actually affect us as people? The colours on your baby room’s four walls are the first and most frequent colours your baby is going to be exposed to.

As such you really want to choose colours that foster the right emotions and energy. For example red is associated with passion, excitement and emotion. It also is a HOT colour, meaning it may not create a restful ambiance for your baby’s room, so we recommend avoiding too much red.

Orange

If you would like to do something a little different from the classic pink or blue, we recommend the more gender neutral colour orange! Orange promotes feelings of warmth, comfort and happiness. Bright orange is more modern, while a darker orange can make a room feel super cozy and restful. Orange works well with timber, wood and rustic furnishings.

Purple

Purple is known as the royal colour, representing dignity and luxury (just what you might want for your child). For a baby’s room, we recommend lighter purples like pastel and lilac. These shades are restful, comforting and still provide a touch of luxury. Purple is well complemented by light timber or white furnishings.

Yellow

Yellow is cheerful, up-beat and energetic. All the things you want from your baby’s room. Subtle yellow promotes more concentrated and emotive thoughts, where as a super bright yellow can slightly agitate your cherub. You can even get created and paint a fun yellow animal such as a giraffe or a fish on the wall, further encouraging your baby’s sense of curiosity.

White

White; timeless, crisp, fresh and innocent. White wonderfully complements a new member of the family and leaves plenty of room to add colour through your furniture or selected artwork. The only warning with white is that it can stane and let’s face it, babies can be messy!

Pink

Pink; because you knew it was coming. Pink is loving, it is feminine and it is the traditional classic girls room colour. This cheerful colour can evoke a somewhat of a princess-complex, but if that doesn’t bother you then don’t be afraid to go all out with the pink! Pink works well with white furnishing, creating an angelic look for your baby’s room.

Green

Another popular gender neutral colour is GREEN. The colour of nurturance and nature, green works wonders in a baby’s room. Pairing well with learning, restfulness and serenity. Brown also works well alongside green, highlighting the earthy pallet. We recommend more light beige/tan browns and suggest using caution to avoid...let’s say poop-like colours?

Blue

The classic blue, typically assigned to boys rooms but can work for both genders really! Blue is associated with restfulness, healing and water. Opt for warm bright blues, as grey/darker blues can lean more toward sadness. The right shade of blue will actually promote productivity.

Grey

Glacial grey has grown in popularity as of late, while grey is typically associated as somewhat dull this twist is more light and positive. Producing a very calm atmosphere that encourages a cheery and calm vibe.

Ultimately when selecting the right room colour for your baby you want to consider what you want to encourage in the space. Themes of restfulness, learning and comfort are the best considerations.

Don’t be afraid to stray from the classic pink and blue and choose a room colour that you too will enjoy spending time within. There is a whole range of colours to choose from and even the option of overlapping colours and designs!
