8 common household items that should be cleaned
These everyday items usually get missed in our everyday cleaning routines. Here are our top 8 most common household items that you might not clean but really should.
#1 - Pillows
Pillows can become dirt with time and general use. It is inadequate to clean only your pillow cases. The pillows should be cleaned too. Doctors believe that pillows are great breeding spot for germs and bacteria. Dirty pillows can cause illnesses like asthma and other fungal infections. So, remember to clean your pillows periodically!
#2 - Keys
When was the last time you cleaned your keys? A recent study declared that keys can be as dirty as a toilet seat.
#3 - Phones
A lot of people carry their smartphones with dirty hands and forget to clean them. The idea of cleaning your phone may seem a little odd. However, this is a very important device to be cleaned as we constantly use it near our faces and we usually carry our phones with us wherever we go.
#4 – Remote Controls
Just like smartphones, you should clean remote controls occasionally. With so many hands touching a single remote control, bacteria is left behind. This is especially true if you have a sick family member, keep your remote clean to avoid spreading germs around.
#5 - Keyboards
Everything you put your hands on should be cleaned at least once in a while. This includes computer keyboards too. Use a dry disinfectant to clean your computer keyboards and mouse.
#6 – Kitchen Sponge
The list of things you should clean will remain incomplete without the kitchen sponge. Sponges are not self-cleaning! Unwashed sponges collect various bacteria over time. To clean, simply add sponges to your daily clothes wash cycle or was manually with a disinfectant or boiled in bleach.

Another important cleaning device that is not cleaned frequently would be the broom. Try to keep your broomsticks in a neat place and with its bristles up to minimise wear and tear. Clean the broomsticks with vacuum or warm soapy water.
#8 – Door Handles & Switches
Last but certainly not least, you should clean the door handles and light switches. These units should be cleaned using disinfecting sprays and a clean rag. If you want to save your dear ones from frequent illnesses, the light switches and door handles should be cleaned weekly.
